Ingredients
- 1 lb / 453.6 g Breakfast sausage
- 2 lb / 907.2 g Frozen shredded potatoes with bell pepper
- 12 / 600 g Eggs
- 8 oz / 226.8 g Shredded cheddar
Method
- Prep at home: Beat the 12 eggs. Keep them cold. Pack the breakfast sausage, the 2 lb package of frozen shredded potatoes with bell pepper, the beaten eggs, and 8 oz of shredded cheddar in the cooler. The comment does not give an egg size. A large egg is 50 g, so 12 are 600 g. A pound of sausage is 453.6 g, so 2 lb of potatoes is 907.2 g. Eight ounces of cheddar is 226.8 g. The bell pepper is in the frozen package. It is not a second weighed food.
- At camp: Set a Dutch oven over campfire coals. Brown the breakfast sausage in the pot until it is cooked through. The comment does not say to drain the pot. The sausage stays in the pot with the potatoes and the eggs.
- At camp: Add the frozen shredded potatoes and the beaten eggs. Cover the pot. Put 8 coals under the pot and 15 coals on the lid. Cook about 40 minutes, until the eggs are set. Turn the pot 45 degrees every 15 minutes. The comment gives those coal counts and that turn.
- At camp: Spread the shredded cheddar on top. Cook about 5 minutes more, until the cheese melts. The comment does not count plates. This card uses 6 plates, two eggs each. Crescent-roll dough and the linked book in that comment are not in this card. Leftovers keep covered in the fridge for a few days. Reheat until the eggs are hot in the center.
Nutrition
Kitchen estimate only, not lab-verified. Counted as 1 of 6 plates: the breakfast sausage, the frozen shredded potatoes, the eggs, and the cheddar. The comment does not count plates. Twelve eggs is the batch. This card uses 6 plates, two eggs each. The sausage is 1 lb, 453.6 g, of pork sausage, raw. The comment does not say to drain the pot, so the raw weight stays. The potatoes are a 2 lb package of frozen shredded potato with bell pepper, 907.2 g. Plain frozen hash browns are the row. There is no SR Legacy blend with bell pepper, so the pepper in the package is not a second food. The eggs are 12. A large egg is 50 g, so 12 are 600 g. The cheddar is 8 oz, 226.8 g. Added sugars are 0. The card did not list a sweetener. About 1 g of sugars per plate sit in the sausage, the eggs, and the cheese. The sausage and the cheddar are the salty parts. One plate is 980 mg sodium.

Guest diet / allergy swaps
Short kitchen notes for guests. A fuller gluten-free or dairy-free ingredient list, when we have one, is in the panels below.
Dairy-free
The dairy is the 8 oz of shredded cheddar on top. Leave the cheese off, or use 8 oz of a shred whose package does not list milk. The sausage, the potatoes, and the eggs stay. Read the sausage package. Some sausage lists cheese. This is a kitchen note, not a dairy-free certification.
- United States: Leave off the cheddar, or use a shred with no milk. Read the sausage for cheese.
- United Kingdom: The same note. The cheese is the dairy. Check the sausage.
Gluten-free style
The written pot does not call for flour. Wheat, when it shows up, is in the breakfast sausage. Use 1 lb of breakfast sausage whose package does not list wheat. The cheddar stays, so this plate is not dairy-free. Read the cheese. This is a kitchen note, not a gluten-free certification.
- United States: Sausage whose package does not list wheat. The cheddar stays, so this plate is not dairy-free.
- United Kingdom: Sausage marked gluten free. The cheddar stays.
No pork
This pot is built on breakfast sausage. It is not written for another meat. A different crumble would be a different plate.
- United States: This pot is breakfast sausage. It is not written for another meat.
- United Kingdom: The same note. This is a sausage plate.
